Flags are flying – It’s July 4th!

Note: Dan is paraphrasing excerpts from Liz’s ride journal.

Today I was up early for breakfast duty. The rain has stopped but all the gear is still soaking wet. We are on the canal paths today and I’m planning on riding about 15 miles – it’s pretty flat. Since it’s a holiday there are a lot of people out on the paths enjoying the sun after days of rain.

After about 7 miles my knee started bothering me some. I was at an REI and noticed that it was open – a convenient place to pick up a few items and rest the knee at the same time. I’m making a lot of fine adjustments to the bike and equipment to try and help my knee. I decided I needed to drop the knee compression sleeve as it seems to be causing the problems now that swelling has gone down. The next 7 miles went a lot better!

After showering I put out the red, white and blue streamers around the campsite. We were camping right next to the canal and there were rental boats adjacent to our camp. After dinner and map meeting it was time to prep for another day!
