Note: Dan is paraphrasing excerpts from Liz’s ride journal.
It rained all night so another day of packing up wet. I’m planning on riding 10 miles today so once again I’m starting my day in the van. The rain has not let up so I’m planning to be in the rain for my ride. The topography is changing as we move southwest along Lake Ontario. It’s getting much flatter. The smoke is still hanging on.

The route took us along the Erie Canal today. My leg felt much stronger and the knee is doing fine. The 10 miles went smoothly except for the rain – I just wish it would stop! At the campground I got a chance to shower, do some laundry, and then it was off to the store to shop for tonight’s meal. My cooking partner and I got dinner on quickly. After the map meeting it was back to the tent to repack, prepare for tomorrow, and sleep! I’ll be up earlier than usual since I have breakfast duty…
You’re doing it!!
O our way fromMa we travel as you are and went through Niagara Falls and the to Niagara on the lake. From 5here across to Michigan and it also rained the whole way. With your bikes you shouldn’t be held up by Customs? Took us 1/1/2 hrs to get through.
Keep up the slow progress and you’ll be back on your full schedule soon. We admire your dedication to pursue your goal. You will never forget this adventure and it will inspire many. Godspeed.
Love the Burts
