Sunday, August 13 would be the last riding day of this block with a day off in Medora, ND. The day started off overcast and cool – jackets were back out for the morning ride. It was mostly a “rolling ride” going up and down the whole way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Medora Campground was only 40 miles from Dickinson and had pretty good facilities – showers, laundry, electrical outlets — it even has free wifi! It was a relatively good place to spend the day off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sunday evening the group enjoys the Medora Musical Show<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Monday was the zero day. Medora sits on the Little Missouri River just south of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Elizabeth had picked up her annual park pass in Arcadia at the start of the ride so she was ready to explore the park. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elizabeth spent a lot of her rest day exploring the park on her bike. When she got back to camp, she faced an important group decision: what to do about dinner? A significant contingent wanted to eat out rather than have another “camp meal”. Elizabeth was excited to enjoy a nice meal (bison steak, what else?).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuesday (August 15) they were back on the road crossing from North Dakota into Montana — 67 miles and 2600 feet of climbing to their destination of Glendive. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first third of the route was mostly climbing up followed by a third of rolling terrain then back down to the same elevation as the start. This meant that there was no shortage of beautiful vistas along the way. It was a hot ride with temperatures over 90 degrees by noon. But soon Elizabeth was at Makoshika State Park near the banks of the Yellowstone River. Near the campground there were many photo ops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
